The story itself has the Hulk stopping around in the northern woods of Canada, where he encounters an old foe, THE WENDIGO! As Hulk and Wendigo fight, their combat is interrupted at the end of the issue by a brand new character calling himself the Wolverine! The last page of the book is basically a splash page showing Wolverine confronting Hulk, claws out, and ready for action. In the time period since his first appearance in Hulk #180, Wolverine and Hulk have battled many times since; always with a ferocity matching their dual natures as both man and beast.

This issue was the first of a three-part story arc continued in Incredible Hulk #181 and 182, featuring Wolverine and the Canadian government (who Wolverine worked for at the time) trying to capture the Hulk.

As comic book fans now know, this was a key moment! Wolverine went on to become a major part of the X-Men (as of Giant-Size X-Men #1), and later joined the Avengers as well. Australian actor Hugh Jackman brought Wolverine to life on the big screen, which helped make the X-Men movie franchise come to life for fans around the world.

Now, with speculation around the eventual introduction of the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), this 1st appearance by Wolverine in Hulk #180 will become even more important to collectors.

Len Wein wrote the story, with Herb Trimpe creating the interior art and the cover art.
